A pair of third period goals lifted women's ACHA ice hockey to a 2-0 win over Liberty University in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action Saturday evening at Lahaya Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The two teams were evenly matched in the first 40 minutes with the Lions putting 12 shots on goal while the Flames managed 13. The tide turned at the 7:42 mark of the third when
Dakota McAlpine broke the shutout with help from
Risa Shatford. Liberty turned up the pressure, trying to get the contest tied, but the Lindenwood defense held strong. The Lions clinched the game with a late goal from
Hannah Jensen, once again assisted by Shatford with 42-seconds remaining.
The Flames outshot Lindenwood 22-18, but
Maia Busi stopped all 22 pucks she faced to earn the shutout win in goal for the Lions.
Lindenwood improved to 5-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the WMCH conference. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon with the puck drop at 1 p.m. at the Lahaya Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
