After a physical and chippy contest last night against Arizona State, women's ACHA ice hockey played a more wide-open game against Concordia University – Ann Arbor, skating to a second straight 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon on neutral ice at the Jordan Valley Ice Park in Springfield, Missouri.
Despite the fast pace and the Lions outshooting their opponent 55-18, almost 40-minutes of game-time passed before either team scored. It looked like the first goal might come from the Cardinals as they earned a power play on a Lindenwood hooking penalty with less than two minutes remaining in the second, but the Lions turned the tables. McKenzie Drost found herself with the puck and broke free for a short-handed, unassisted tally with 4.7 seconds left in the period to make it 1-0 Lindenwood.
The Lions increased their lead in the third when
Nikki Lillies set up Anaïs Fortier at the 7:43 mark. Concordia cut the advantage in half with 5:35 left in regulation, but that is as close as the Cardinals would get before time ran out.
Lindenwood improved to 4-2-1 overall with the victory. The Lions play their third straight neutral ice contest Sunday afternoon in a rematch from Friday against Arizona State. The puck drops at 12:30 p.m. at the Jordan Valley Ice Park in Springfield, Missouri.
