The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-11-0, 1-3-0 CHA) fell for the second-consecutive day, 5-3 to No. 9 Clarkson (11-1-2, 4-0-0 ECAC) from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions struggled to get any offensive momentum going in the first period, registering just two shots on goal across the opening 20 minutes. Clarkson found the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead just before the midway point of the opening period. Four minutes later, the Golden Knights extended their lead, making the score 2-0, which would be the score headed into the first intermission.
Clarkson took a 3-0 lead just 32 seconds into the second frame. Despite the deficit, Lindenwood kept working earning a five on three. On the man advantage,
Jada Burke found the back of the net for the second-consecutive game, cutting into the Golden Knights lead, 3-1.
Kaitlin Finnegan and
Sierra Burt picked up assists on the goal. In the frame, the Lions compiled 14 shots, including nine on goal as they trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Lindenwood battled in the final frame recording 19 shots, including 16 on goal.
Valerie Caldwell netted her team-leading fourth goal of the year, assisted by Burke, making the score 4-2 with just under seven minutes to play. Five minutes later,
Gigi Pora took a pass from
Maddison Stitt and fired a wrister past the Clarkson netminder, cutting the deficit to just one with under two minutes to play.
Lindenwood pushed for the game-tying goal, but Clarkson found the empty net with 22 seconds left in the game to seal the 5-3 win.
