Women's ACHA ice hockey edged McKendree 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the McKendree Rec-Plex in Lebanon, Illinois.
After the first 38 minutes ticked off the clock with no scoring,
Risa Shatford split the pipes for the Lions with 1:25 remaining in the second, assisted by
Kennedy Frank and
Madison Teague. That would prove to be the only goal in the game, however it required a great third period effort from Lindenwood netminder
Maia Busi, who rejected 22 shots in the final 20 minutes alone. The Bearcats pulled their goalie with just under 90 seconds left in regulation, but Busi still stood tall, ultimately earning saves on all 36 shots she faced in the contest. McKendree outshot the Lions 36 to 26.
With the victory, the Lions improved to 7-2-1 overall, to 3-1-1 in Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) action, and they won their sixth game in a row. They'll wrap up a three-game WMCH weekend Sunday evening with a rematch from Friday against Maryville. The puck drops at 5 p.m. at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield Missouri.
