Women's ACHA ice hockey earned two wins over the weekend, with a 2-1 victory over McKendree Friday night at the McKendree Metro Rec-Plex in Lebanon, Illinois, and an 11-1 win over Maryville Sunday at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
In the game against the Bearcats, the Lions took an early 1-0 lead with seven minutes remaining in the opening period, but McKendree tied the contest with just 40-seconds left on the clock. Neither team scored the rest of regulation and the Lions were able to claim the one-goal victory.
After a closely contested game on Friday, the Lions had a much easier win on Sunday. Lindenwood scored three goals in the first period, three in the second, and five in the third while only giving up one tally midway through the final 20-minutes.
Marissa Delry led the Lions with four goals, one coming short-handed, and six points overall, and
Dakota McAlpine scored once and helped on five other goals, also earning six points.
Michaela Read added two goals and totaled three points, and single goals came from
Kennedy Frank,
Nikki Lillies,
Lindsay Gillis, and
Hallie Fisher. Brookelynn Bell earned three points on three assists, while
MacKenzie White and
Rayel Strayer each had one assist. The lone Saints goal came at the 10:57 mark of the third during a five-minute power play.
Lindenwood outshot Maryville 60 to 24.
Maia Busi stopped all 13 pucks she faced in 29:08 of playing time, and was relieved by freshman
Luci Burke, who played 30:52 and stopped 10 of 11 shots.
With the two weekend wins, the Lions improved to 12-3-0 overall and to 8-3-0 in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action. After a weekend off, the Lions will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota to wrap up the regular season with a two-game series in the WMCH against the University of Minnesota March 13-14. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. that Saturday night and at 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the 3M Arena.
