Women's ACHA ice hockey finished fourth in the Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) conference tournament March 27-28 at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Lions entered as the No. 2 seed, but lost to No. 3 seed Minot State 4-1 Saturday night and then dropped a 3-2 contest to No. 4 seed Midland Sunday afternoon.
In the semifinal match-up, the Beavers jumped in front with two goals in the first period. Lindenwood made it 2-1 with an unassisted effort from
MacKenzie White at the 6:30 mark of the second, but Minot State answered with four minutes left in the period, and then added a fourth goal on the power play for the final margin.
The Beavers outshot the Lions 35-25 and
Emily McDonald stopped 31 of the 35 shots she faced to suffer the loss in goal for Lindenwood.
The Lions fell behind early again in the third-place game on Sunday as the Warriors scored a power play goal in the first five minutes. Lindenwood was able to tie the contest when
Michaela Read and
Lindsay Gillis set up
Tessa O'Connor for a power play goal at the 12:19 mark of the second, but Midland took a 2-1 lead on a man-advantage effort with 54-seconds remaining in the period, and the Warriors added an even strength tally midway through the third.
Marissa Delry scored another power play goal with help from Gillis and Read with 45-second left in regulation, but time ran out before the Lions could get an equalizer.
Lindenwood outshot Midland 28-25, and McDonald made 25 saves on the 28 shots she faced for the Lions, who dropped to 12-7-0 overall.
Despite the four-game losing streak, Lindenwood still enters the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Women's Division I National Championship as the No. 4 seed. The event begins April 14 at the Pepsis Ice Rink in Minot, North Dakota.
