A brilliant goaltending performance from
Emily McDonald led women's ACHA hockey to a 3-0 victory over Minot State in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Women's Division I semifinals Sunday afternoon at Maysa Arena in Minot, North Dakota.
The Beavers put 41 shots on goal against the Lindenwood netminder, but she repelled every one of them. On offense, the Lions scored once in each period to pull away from Minot State. The first came from
Marissa Delry off a feed from
Risa Shatford at 5:19 of the first. The two players then switched roles in the second with Delry setting up Shatford with 6:33 remaining in the second to give Lindenwood a 2-0 advantage. The final Lions goal came off the blade of
Kennedy Frank at 15:21 of the third, assisted by
Michaela Read and
Kim Turcotte.
The Beavers outshot Lindenwood 41-28, but the McDonald effort set the tone. With the win, the Lions advanced to the championship game against Liberty University. Lindenwood has already faced the Flames four times, going 1-3 in the matchups, the most recent a 4-0 loss April 15 in nationals pool play. The opening faceoff in the ACHA Women's Division I National Championship game is set for 7 p.m. Monday evening, April 19 at the Maysa Arena in Minot, North Dakota.
