Women’s ACHA Hockey Falls to Liberty in Championship

Women's ACHA hockey fell to Liberty University 3-1 Monday evening in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Women's Division I National Championship game at Maysa Arena in Minot, North Dakota.

The Lions could not contain Flames forward Valeriia Manchak as she scored two goals for Liberty, the first coming late in the opening period.  She scored again late in the second to extend the lead to 2-0.  Moments later, Lindenwood took a checking penalty, and Liberty capitalized with a power play goal with under two minutes remaining in the period to open up a 3-0 margin.

The Lions broke the shutout late in the third when Kennedy Frank sounded the horn off a feed from senior Nikki Lillies at 18:34, but time ran out before Lindenwood could get any closer.

The Flames outshot the Lions 32-19, and Emily McDonald stopped 29 of the 32 pucks she faced in goal as Lindenwood fell to Liberty for the fourth time this season.

The women's ACHA squad finishes the year as the national runner-up with an overall record of 14-10-0.
