The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team (15-1, 7-0 GLVC) is set for a NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance. The Lions will take on Roberts Wesleyan College in the semifinals, beginning at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow from Salem, Va.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Lindenwood and Roberts Wesleyan, as the Redhawks enter the Final Four as the No. 3 seed, boating a record of 14-1, including a 6-1 mark inside the East Coast Conference.
The Lions picked up two wins over a pair of top-10 teams in No. 10 Regis and No. 1 UIndy by scores of 14-9 and 17-13, respectively, helping them claim the Midwest Regional title.
In the win over UIndy, Lindenwood controlled the game in the opening half, compiling nine draw controls to the Greyhounds three. As a result, the Lions jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead just 12 minutes into the game, including a pair of goals by
Paige Sutton. The junior attack found the back of the net two more times in the half as the Lions took an 8-3 lead into halftime. Across the first 30 minutes of play Lindenwood outshot Indianapolis 13-11, while forcing five Greyhound turnovers.
In the second half, each team traded goals, as the score was 12-6 in favor of the Lions with just over 13 minutes to go in the half. The Greyhounds made a push, however, scoring the next three goals, cutting the deficit to three with 11;29 remaining in the period. That would be as close as they would get, though as the Lions picked up the victory, 17-13. In the half, the Lions had seven different players find the back of the net, led by
Carly Fedorowski and
Emma Wildhart, who each scored twice.
The winner will advance to the National Championship game to take on the winner of Queens and East Stroudsburg on Sunday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m.
