No. 21 Football Drops Season Opener

The No. 21 Lindenwood football team (0-1) lost the 2021 season opener on Thursday night to Angelo State (1-0) by a final of 40-20 inside Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
 
GAME OVERVIEW
Angelo State took an early lead after pinning the Lions back at their own three yard line.  Just two plays later the Rams registered two points due to a safety, and scored on the ensuing drive after just four plays.  Lindenwood took another big hit, when Angelo State scored on the first play of the drive on a pick six to make it a 16-0 lead for the Rams at the 7:41 mark of the first quarter.
 
Lindenwood was able to get on the board four minutes later, after Cade Brister found Tyler Chandler in the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown.  Angelo State regained a significant lead at the conclusion of an eight-play 79-yard drive, making it a 23-7 game.  The Lions closed out the first half on a positive note, when Brister found Alex Faddoul for a 24-yard touchdown pass.
 
Angelo State took a 23-14 lead into the half, and halted the Lions on their first drive of the third quarter to flip momentum.  The Rams put together another long drive which accumulated 96 yards in 10 plays to go ahead 30-14.  Angelo State added another touchdown to close out the third quarter, taking a commanding 37-14 lead.  The Lions continued to fight, as Brister scored on a two-yard run to make it a 37-20 deficit with 6:42 remaining.  Lindenwood could not find the big momentum shift in the game, and fell to Angelo State 40-20 on opening night.
