ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood field hockey team beat Frostburg State in a 1-0 road victory on Saturday afternoon.
"It was really nice to see our team unite and identify the importance of focusing our energy on pieces of the game we could control," said Assistant Coach
Sara Nagel. "Discipline has been a key point for us to hone in on this season, and it was clear to see the difference in when we stayed true to our game plan and the moments we did not. Luckily those moments were limited and didn't define the game for us."
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions and Bobcats were neck and neck for the majority of the time, both teams showcasing solid scoring chances and even stronger defensive plays throughout the game.
Lindenwood was finally able to break through the lines when
Mia Simpson found the back of the net late in the fourth quarter after 50:23 minutes of play. Simpson's fourth goal of the season and second in a row was enough to send the Lions home with the win, holding the Bobcats scoreless until the clock ran out.
Leah Brozovich held strong in the net today, playing all 60 minutes and recording a total of six saves.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Simpson scored the lone goal of the game, unassisted.
Brozovich improved her goalkeeping record to 3-0 with today's win, allowing no goals and making six total saves.
The Lions and the Bobcats were deadlocked in the shots category, each recording 10 total shots per team.
"Frostburg is a tough opponent and had a few good scoring opportunities," said Nagel. "We worked hard for each other and are definitely proud of that. The end result of a W is nice too."
UP NEXT
The Lions will remain on the road for a Monday matchup against Kutztown, which will be hosted by Frostburg as a neutral site game at 1:00PM EST.
