Men’s ACHA D2 Hockey Earns First Road Sweep of Marian University

A pair of third period comebacks gave men's ACHA Division II ice hockey a first-ever road sweep of Marian (Wisc.) University Thursday and Friday at the Fond du Lac Ice Center in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

In the opening game of the series, Marian took an early 2-0 lead, but the Lions clawed their way back on goals from Sean Wagner, Eli Roofe, and Bryce Leger for a 3-2 advantage.

The Sabres mounted their own comeback with two unanswered goals in the third, but Roofe sounded the horn with his second of the contest to knot the score at 4-4 with 8:36 remaining in regulation. Ryan Granville then broke that tie with 56-seconds left in the game when he fired a shot from the blue line through traffic that found the corner of the net. Leger added an empty netter to seal a 6-4 victory for Lindenwood.

The Lions offense was paced by Leger and Roofe, each with two goals, and Declan Carter helped the cause with three assists. Michael Errico earned the victory in goal for Lindenwood.

The series finale proved to be more of a defensive battle through the first 40-minutes with Marian carrying a 1-0 lead into the final period, but the Lions came back for the second day in a row. Praveen Dhaliwal, Josh Linn, and Tim Marchant each netted goals to give Lindenwood a 3-2 win. Errico stopped 22 shots to post his second victory in a row.

With the two wins, the Lions improved to 9-4-0 on the season. They get to finish 2022 with five straight home games beginning with a two-game set against Davenport University November 11-12. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday night and at 6:20 p.m. Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
