The Lindenwood women's hockey team (2-14-0, 2-4-0 CHA) fell in the series finale to Stonehill (9-10-1, 6-6-0 NEWHA) by a score of 5-3 on Saturday, afternoon from Bridgewater, Mass.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood spent most of the opening period on the man advantage, earning five powerplay opportunities in the games first 10 minutes. As a result, the Lions outshot Stonehill 12-0 across the first 13 minutes of play, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The Skyhawks would get on the board first, grabbing a 1-0 lead at the 17:34 mark, which they would take into the locker room after one period of play.
Stonehill added to its lead five minutes into the second period, taking a 2-0 lead. It didn't take long for Lindenwood to respond, however as just over 30 seconds later,
Kaitlin Finnegan made a slick move to slide one past the Skyhawks netminder, making the score 2-1, which was assisted by
Chloe Corbin and
Sarah Davies. The back-and-forth battle continued in the second as Stonehill regained the two-goal advantage, going up 3-1 at the 10:16 mark of the middle frame.
The Lions had another quick response, though when
Brooke Pioske wristed one into the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 3-2 at the 11:53 mark. Lindenwood kept up the momentum and found the equalizer five minutes later.
Morgan Neitzke stole a loose puck and fed
Rachel Goff who scored her second goal in as many games, tying the game, 3-3.
Emma Hoen also picked up an assist on the goal. Â The Skyhawks quickly regained the lead, going up 4-3 with less than two minutes to go in the second period.
Lindenwood pushed for the game-tying goal throughout the third period, outshooting the Skyhawks 17-6 in the final frame. Despite the chances, the Lions couldn't find the back of the net as the period continued. The Skyhawks held onto the lead and found an empty-net with just over two minutes remaining, which sealed the victory.
