Two third period goals completed a 3-2 comeback victory for women's ACHA ice hockey over the Saints Saturday night at the Maryville Ice Center in St. Louis, Missouri. With the win, the Lions evened their record in the Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey conference to 3-3-0
The Lions took an early lead in the contest when
Madison Teague sounded the horn off a pass from
Kailey Keller at 2:20 in the first, but Maryville answered back just over three minutes later. The game remained tied 1-1 until late in the second period after Lindenwood was called for cross-checking. The Saints capitalized with the man-advantage at the 17:45 mark to take a 2-1 lead.
It took until midway through the third before the Lions started to mount their comeback. After a tripping call against Maryville,
Kennedy Frank set up
Kim Turcotte for the power play goal with 7:28 remaining in regulation.
Risa Shatford netted the game-winner with 1:09 left on a play set up by Turcotte and Teague.
Maryville outshot Lindenwood 38-27, but
Maia Busi stopped 36 of the 38 shots she faced to earn the victory in goal for the Lions, who improved to 4-6-0 overall.
Lindenwood goes for the two-game sweep against the Saints Sunday night. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Barn outside rink at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
