A quick offensive flurry early in the second period proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win for the Lions over Miami (Ohio) Friday night at the Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio.
The Redhawks took the lead at the 12:02 mark of the first and carried it into the middle frame, but that's when Lindenwood scored two goals in just 62-seconds. The first came at 2:10 off the stick of
Brookelyn Bell on a play set up by
Callie Philippe and
Nikki Lillies.
Dakota McAlpine sounded the horn for what proved to be the game-winner at 3:12 off a pass from
Ardyn Hawryshko. The Lions kept Miami at bay the rest of the game to claim victory.
Lindenwood outshot the Redhawks 33 to 26, with
Emily McDonald stopping 25 of the 26 shots she faced to earn the win in goal.
MacKenzie Drost achieved a collegiate milestone with her 100
th game played.
The Lions improved to 15-4-2 on the season. They attempt to sweep Miami in the second game of the series Saturday night with the opening faceoff set for 9:10 p.m. at the Goggin Ice Center.
