It's difficult to beat any team three straight times in a season, let alone four, and that's what the Lindenwood ACHA women's ice hockey team was trying to do against Maryville Saints at the Saints house Friday night in the opening round of the Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) conference tournament. The end result was a 3-2 double overtime loss at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
The Lions were fighting from behind the entire game after the Saints took an early lead in the first, but Lindenwood tied it on a
Kennedy Frank score later in the period. After Maryville took a 2-1 advantage,
Ardyn Hawryshko knotted things at 2-2 in the second and that's where the score remained through the remainder of the period, through the rest of regulation, and through the first overtime session. The Saints scored the game-winner midway through the second overtime to advance and dash the Lions hopes of a conference tournament title.
Lindenwood still has some additional hockey to play with a consolation game against Minnesota Saturday night. The Gophers fell to top seeded Minot State 11-1 Friday night. The opening faceoff is set for 9:50 p.m. at the Maryville Hockey Center.
