After dropping a double overtime contest in the first round of the Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) Tournament Friday night, and after getting two close wins against Minnesota last weekend, women's ACHA hockey made quick work of the Gophers with a 7-0 victory in a WMCH consolation game Saturday night at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
The Lions scored four times in the opening period and another three times in the second.
Kennedy Frank sounded the horn first in the game at 8:27 on a play set up by
Ardyn Hawryshko and
MacKenzie Drost. Hawryshko then netted the puck at 12:31 off a pass from Frank. Frank earned the only assist on a Drost goal with 3:53 remaining, and
MacKenzie White found the back of the net with 39-seconds on the clock with help from Anaïs Fortier and Frank.
A Minnesota penalty at the 31-second mark of the second gave Lindenwood a power play and
Brookelyn Bell took advantage just eight seconds later off a feed from Drost. The Lions were then called for an infraction, but turned the tables with a short-handed effort off the stick of
Kim Turcotte with an assist from
Rylee Gee at 2:41. The final score of the contest came from Hawryshko at even strength with a solo assist from Drost at 15:03.
Emily McDonald stopped all 28 shots she faced to earn the shutout in goal for Lindenwood.
The Lions host the American Collegiate Hockey Association Women's Division I National Championship March 16-20 at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
