After falling behind by as many as three goals, women's ACHA ice hockey rallied, but came up short in a 4-3 loss to McKendree University Sunday evening in Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) action at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Bearcats jumped in front with two goals in the opening 10-minutes of the first period. The Lions cut into that deficit when
Madison Teague split the pipes at the 15:06 mark. McKendree carried a 2-1 advantage into the second, expanded it to 3-1 just 1:56 into the period, and built it to 4-1 with 5:43 remaining, but Lindenwood changed the scoreboard quickly with two goals in a span of just 23-seconds.
Tessa O'Connor sounded the horn at 18:16, followed by
Kennedy Frank at 18:39. It looked like the Lions carried all the momentum into the final frame, but the offense was held in check. Neither team could find the back of the net in the third and the contest ended 4-3 in favor of the Bearcats.
With the loss, Lindenwood fell to 7-2-2 in the WMCH, and to 13-4-2 overall. The Lions face Ohio University on the road February 11-12. The puck drops at 10 p.m. Friday night and at 9:10 p.m. Saturday at the Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio.
