Women's ACHA ice hockey survived and advanced with a 2-1 win over No. 4 seeded Adrian College at the 2022 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Women's Division I National Championship Friday morning at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The No. 5 seeded Lions fell behind the Bulldogs midway through the opening period, but tied the contest later in the frame when
Brookelyn Bell found the back of the net off a feed from
Ardyn Hawryshko at the 14:54 mark. The game remained knotted at one through the entire second period until Hawryshko sounded the horn with the eventual game winner on a play set up by
Callie Philippe and
Madison Teague at 4:45 of the third.
Adrian outshot Lindenwood 41 to 23, but
Emily McDonald stopped 40 of the 41 pucks she faced to get a well-earned victory in goal for the Lions. Both teams had opportunities on the power play, but Lindenwood went scoreless on four man-advantage chances while the Bulldogs went scoreless on three opportunities.
With the win, the Lions advance to the semifinals and will either play at 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. Saturday, most likely against one of the two top seeds, either No. 2 Midland or No. 1 Liberty, based on the outcome of the other three quarterfinal matchups.
