Box Score The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team fell to Rockhurst 11-10 in overtime in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.
OVERVIEW
Things were close in the first, starting with a
Peter Covington goal off the assist from
Chase Showalter.
Patrick Kaschalk then went on to net his 45th goal of the season, but the Hawks tied things up at 2-2. In response, the Lions created a four-goal lead thanks to a goal from
Adrian Thompson,
Jacob VanKleeck's first of the season, and two more goals from Kaschalk.
Rockhurst scored first in the second, looking to close the gap back up before halftime.
Nolan Corker got on the board off the assist from
Cam Smith, and Kaschalk netted one more before the Hawks would score again. Rockhurst kept applying pressure, but the Lions defense held strong, led by
Kyle Hebert who made three huge saves to fend off the Hawks in crucial times.
Colin Hunt was also a big part of the Lions' defensive presence, scooping up five total ground balls.
The Hawks knocked in four goals after the halftime, tying things up 8-8 with 8:38 left to go in the third period. Rockhurst held the Lions to a scoreless period and gained the lead for the first time all game, going up 9-8 right before the fourth.
Covington tied things up again for the Lions off the assist from Thompson with under six minutes to go in the fourth period, but the Hawks grabbed another goal shortly after, regaining their slim lead. Smith scored his first of the game at the perfect time, however, tying things back up at 10-10 with three minutes left.
Rockhurst called a timeout with 1:20 remaining in the period, and the Lions followed suit shortly after with just 23 seconds left, but the game would head into overtime regardless. Rockhurst netted the game-winner in the first 25 seconds of overtime play to end things.
