The Lindenwood softball team earned an at-large bid to the 2022 Midwest Regional tournament on Monday morning, competing in its final season at the NCAA Division II level.
Â
"I'm so proud of this team for believing they can accomplish something great," said head coach
Erin Brown. "They've worked together and played very well all year."
Â
The Lions, who finished the regular season with a 35-11 record, were named the No. 4 seed in this year's event and will square off with GLVC-foe Drury on Thursday, May 12, from USI Softball Field in Evansville, Ind., at top-seeded Southern Indiana.
Â
Lindenwood's resume speaks for itself, with wins over regional selections UIndy, Ohio Dominican, and Findlay. In addition, the Lions won double-digit contests against regionally-ranked opponents and teams with an above-.500 record.
Â
The Lions' selection marks the first trip to the regional tournament in program history.
Â
"Before the season started, I thought we might have a chance," concluded Brown. "I was so happy to see their great efforts and enthusiasm rewarded with the opportunity to compete in the NCAA tournament."
Â
Game times and a complete schedule will be made available soon.
