Men's rugby player
Ryan Denvir wrapped up his summer sevens tour by representing Jamaica at the 2022 Sevens World Cup September 9-11 at DHL Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa. The event featured 24 men's teams and 16 women's teams from around the world and drew over 105,000 fans over the weekend.
Denvir has played a big role for the Team Jamaica international sevens squad recently with travels to South Africa, Chile, and the United States. He also helped the Crocs earn a silver medal at the RAN Sevens qualifier in the Bahamas this past April, where he earned his first playing time for the Jamaican team. That finish not only qualified the Crocs for the World Cup, but also for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
During the 2022 World Cup Challenger series in Chile, Denvir scored one of the most electric tries of the tournament when he straight-armed a defender and out-raced the Papua New Guinea Squad 60-meters for a try. Jamaica eventually won that match 15-14.
During the 2022 Sevens World Cup this past weekend, Denvir played in matches against Scotland, Tonga, Portugal, and Zimbabwe.
"It's always a pleasure and an honor to be representing Jamaica with my peers," he said. "Each tournament, we look forward to the challenge, but we also focus on making sure we enjoy the process."
Denvir also spent time playing for the Rhinos Rugby Academy (Irvine, Calif.) over the summer. That squad won the NAI Sevens U23 division in Utah and the LA Invitational Men's Elite Bracket in California.
Denvir is a current senior for the Lindenwood rugby team and is expected to make big contributions for the Lions this season in both 15's and sevens.
