Women's ACHA ice hockey was upended by Midland University 4-1 in a Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) game Friday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
After battling through the first period scoreless, the Warriors put a power play goal on the board early in the second. The Lions were still in the game heading into the third, down just 1-0, but the Midland offense overwhelmed Lindenwood with 17 shots, lighting the lamp with two of them in the first seven minutes of the period.
Madison Teague finally broke the shutout for Lindenwood when she netted a shot at the 10:51 mark, assisted by
Ardyn Hawryshko and
Kennedy Frank, but that was as close as the Lions would get. The Warriors added a fourth goal 49-seconds later to put the contest out of reach.
Midland outshot Lindenwood 41-20 overall and
Emily McDonald stopped 37 of the 41 pucks she faced in goal. The Lions went 0/1 on the power play while yielding one goal on three man-advantage chances to the Warriors.
With the loss, Lindenwood stands at 4-6-1 in the WMCH and 5-11-1 overall. After hosting Midland yesterday, the Lions will hit the road to battle the Warriors February 4-5. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon and at 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Nebraska.
