Women's ACHA ice hockey fell to Maryville University by a score of 5-3 Friday night in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action at the Maryville Ice Center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
The Saints scored the first goal of the game late in the opening period, but
Loki Antonio evened things up early in the second off a pass from
Ardyn Hawryshko at 1:03. After Maryville took a 2-1 lead midway through the period, the Lions answered again when
MacKenzie Cameron set up
Jessica Wither at 16:27, but the Saints took the lead for good just 45-seconds later. They extended their advantage to 4-2 at 6:16 of the third but
Madison Teague kept Lindenwood in the game with an unassisted effort just six seconds later. That was as close as the Lions would get, though. Maryville added an insurance goal with 8:31 remaining in regulation.
The Lions outshot the Saints 34-25 and
Maia Busi stopped 20 of the 25 shots she faced in the loss.
With the loss, Lindenwood dropped to 5-7-0 overall and to 4-4-0 in the WMCH. The Lions will try to earn a split in the two-game series with the Saints Saturday night. The puck drops at 8:15 p.m. at the Maryville Ice Center.
