Women's Ice Hockey Set To Compete at the Ice Breaker Tournament

ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Lindenwood women's hockey team (2-4-0, 0-0-0 CHA) will travel to Fairfield, Conn., to compete in the Women's Ice Breaker Tournament on Friday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. CT, and Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 or 4:00 p.m. CT, depending on the Lions seeding. The Lions will take on Sacred Heart (1-2-0, 0-0-0 NEWHA) in the first game of the tournament and will either play St. Cloud State or Northeastern in the second game of the tournament. All games will be hosted at the Martire Family Arena. 

The Lions are looking to bounce back from a four-game losing streak with two recent losses to the University of Saint Thomas. Morgan Neitzke leads the Lions in points with eight, coming from three goals and five assists. Sarah Davies is second behind Neitzke with six points, coming from two goals and four assists. The Lions also have three individuals with at least four points. Natalie Ferenc currently has 157 saves in five games played this year and is two saves away from hitting 1400 career saves as a Lion. 

The Lions will meet up with the Sacred Heart Pioneers for the third time in program history. The Lions career record against the Pioneers is 2-0, winning their last matchup against the Pioneers 5-2, on January 21, 2012. The Pioneers are currently 1-4 on the year and were picked fourth out of eight teams in the NEWHA coaches' poll. Sacred Heart is coming off two recent losses to Long Island University. Leading scorers for the Pioneers include Kailey Smith with four points and Kate Helgeson has three points. Carly Greene and Jillian Petruno spent time in net for the Pioneers, making a combined 196 saves on 23 goals against. 

In the second matchup of the tournament, the Lions will either matchup against St. Cloud State or Northeastern. St. Cloud is currently 5-2 on the year, picking up a 3-0 win against Bemidji State and a 2-1 loss to #4 Minnesota in their last two contests. Northeastern is 5-2 on the year with a 1-0 loss to Merrimack and 2-0 win over Boston University.
