The Lindenwood Lions haven't lost a series this season and are looking to continue that tread when they arrive in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to face the #6 University of Michigan on Friday and Saturday.
With three series down, the Lions have dropped three games, tied twice and won once. Let's take a look at the season thus far. To open the 2023-24 campaign, Lindenwood faced off against Air Force, where they dropped the first match 4-1 and rallied back to take game two, 4-3. Against ranked Ohio State University, the Lions lost the first 4-2 and tied the second 2-2. At St. Thomas, LU was able to tie game one 4-4 and dropped the last, 3-1.
Entering the weekend, the Lions are in a great position to face Michigan. Michigan enters the series 3-2-1. The Wolverines opened the season, falling 4-2 to #18 Providence and bouncing back with a 5-4 victory. When faced with UMass, Michigan won the first 7-2 and dropped the second 6-3. The Wolverines' two game series ended with a 7-1 win and 2-2 tie, in which they lost the shootout.
The Wolverines lead the series 2-0 over the Lions after winning 7-4 and 3-1 on October 7-8, 2022. This weekend, Rutger McGroarty is expected to have an impact for Michigan as he currently leads the team with 11-points. McGroarty has three goals and eight assists for the season. Seamus Casey is also expected to be a game changer as he has two goals, seven assists, for a total of nine-points. In the net, Jake Barczewski is expected. He has played and started in five games, while Noah West has played and started in one. Barczewski has allowed has recorded 136 saves while conceding 13 goals. West, in 58:45 minutes played, recorded 22 saves and four conceded goals. An empty net attributed to two goals of the 19 the Wolverines have conceded in six games.
Jake Southgate has earned six points for the Lions in six games, with three goals and three assists. Kyle Jeffers has also made his presence known, recording four points for two goals and two assists. Drew Kuzma is another notable for Lindenwood as he has accumulated four points in three games (three goals and one assist). In the net for the Lions is Trent Burnham, who has started and played in all six of Lindenwood's contests. Recording 228 saves and conceding 18 goals has netted Burnham a .927 save percentage and 2.91 GAA. An empty net contributed to two of the 20 goals allowed by the Lions in six contests.
