Women's ACHA ice hockey played to a 2-2 tie versus the University of Michigan Friday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Lions took an early lead when Kenzie Cameron and
Ardyn Hawryshko set up
Loki Antonio for her second goal of the season at 13:07 of the first. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Lindenwood until the Wolverines scored back-to-back on unassisted plays at 8:11 and 9:48 of the second to take the lead 2-1.
The Lions found the equalizer early in the third when Katelyn Weeks sounded the horn at 4:07 with help from
Ava Bilton and
Madison Teague. Both teams had chances on power plays in the final minutes of the period, but the score remained tied 2-2 at the end of regulation.
Michigan was called for a hooking penalty just 21-seconds into the five-minute overtime session giving the Lions a great chance to win the game, but it was not to be. Despite outshooting the Wolverines 9-2 in the extra time, the clock ran out without another score.
Lindenwood outshot Michigan 41-33 and
Evi Allerding stopped 31 of the 33 shots she faced in 65-minutes of work in goal. Each team went scoreless on three power play chances.
The Lions now sit at 0-6-1 on the season. They return to the ice for the series finale Saturday afternoon. The puck drops at 8:40 p.m. at Centene Community Ice Center.
