After taking Michigan to overtime before settling for a 2-2 tie on Friday, women's ACHA ice hockey dropped the second game of the series 4-2 Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play at 8:47 of the first after the Lions were called for hooking. Michigan gave Lindenwood a man-advantage chance just over two minutes later on a high sticking penalty and just four seconds into the power play,
Madison Teague scored her first goal of the season at 11:07 with help from
Loki Antonio and
Ardyn Hawryshko.
The game remained tied 1-1 through the remainder of the period and into the second until Hawryshko sounded the horn off a pass from Antonio at the seven-minute mark. The Lions had a 2-1 lead, but the Wolverines clamped down on defense while ramping up their offensive attack. That resulted in an unassisted effort to tie the contest at 10:17. Michigan added another power play goal early in the third and made it 4-2 midway through the period.
The Wolverines outshot Lindenwood 38-34 overall and
Jordan Tung stopped 34 of the 38 shots she faced in goal. The Lions went 1-2 on the power play while yielding two goals on four man-advantage chances to Michigan.
With the loss, the Lions are now 0-7-1 on the season overall. They return to home ice for a two-game series against Colorado State University November 18-19. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:50 p.m. Saturday night and at 1:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
