Lindenwood women's volleyball hits the home stretch in Ohio Valley Conference play as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on the Tigers of Tennessee State. Lindenwood is 1-2 all-time against TSU, losing to them in the semi-finals of the OVC Tournament last season.
During the Lions last home stand against Little Rock, Lindenwood split with the Trojans helping them remain in third place in the conference. LU took Friday's match in their second sweep in conference play while the Trojans battled to a five set win on Saturday.
Tennessee State currently sits in 11th place in the OVC with a 2-10 conference record. The Tigers won their first two OVC matches of the season before losing 10 straight. TSU are defending OVC Tournament Champions and made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022-23.
The Lions were picked to finish seventh this season in the OVC during the preseason voting. Tennessee State was picked to finish sixth this season after running the tables as the OVC Tournament last season. Kennedy Davis was selected to the All-OVC Preseason team.
Weekend Recap
Lindenwood battled the Trojans of Little Rock last weekend at Hyland Arena picking up a split in the process. Each team was great defensively with a total of 33.0 blocks during Saturday's match.
On Friday, the Lions swept their second Ohio Valley Conference opponent of the season after defeating Little Rock in three sets. The Lions had five players record at least five kills and hit .215 as a team.
Lindenwood dominated the first set on Friday evening finishing with a 25-15 set score.Â
Rebecca Janke was effective in the middle posting three kills on a .500 hitting percentage.Â
Abby VanBuskirk also added six assists to help the Lions.
Nyah Wilson exploded in set two capturing six kills to help lead the Lions to a 25-21 set win. There were six ties in the set that Lindenwood had to battle through including late in the match at 19-19.
The match came to a close on Friday after Lindenwood took the third set 25-20 in rout to a 3-0 sweep.Â
Ashley Geluck led the team in the third with four kills whileÂ
Anna Kraemer added three more. VanBuskirk also added eight assists and led Lindenwood to a .182 hitting percentage.
Wilson led the way with nine kills while also picking up 10 digs. LiberoÂ
Jessie Seidel also picked up 14 digs, three assists and two kills in the 3-0 win. Geluck collected seven kills while Janke added six.
After sweeping on Friday, the Lions were up 2-0 in sets on Saturday before the Trojans won three consecutive sets to defeat the Lions. Little Rock posted 20 blocks in the win.
Wilson had her 11th double-double of the season on Saturday after posting a team high 15 kills and 15 digs.Â
Allie Otten added 24 assists as the primary setter for the Lions. Seidel also tied her career high in digs with 32.
OVC Top Ten
Rebecca Janke continues to be a consistent staple up front for the Lions as she ranks eighth in the OVC in hitting percentage with a .290. Of the attackers ranked in the top ten in hitting percentage, she is fifth in kills with 232 and has the third least attack errors with 46.
Setter
Allie Otten remains in the top ten ranking eighth in assists this season with an average of 6.51 per set. She currently sits at 599 for the season, needing 86 more to pass her career high she set in 2020.
Jessie Seidel ranks fourth in total digs this season in the OVC with 438 while her digs per average ranks fifth (4.76). Seidel has set her new career high in digs twice this season including her last match against Little Rock (32).
Player To Watch
Nyah Wilson is one of three Lions to have over 200 kills this season, ranking second on the team with 244 (new season-high in her career). She has posted 15 double digit kill matches this season including a season high 16 in a win against Eastern Illinois.
Not only is Wilson a threat on offense, but she has been an established player on defense. She currently ranks second on the team in digs with 256 (2.78 d/s) and has 23.0 blocks. She has 11 double-doubles on the season, tied for first on the team.
