After earning the first win of the season in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) conference action on Friday, women's ACHA ice hockey was blanked by Maryville 4-0 Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
The Lions were somewhat overwhelmed in the first period, getting outshot 21-1, but Lindenwood netminder
Evi Allerding yielded just one goal to get her team into the second only trailing 1-0. The Lions had multiple chances to take control of the contest in the middle 20-minutes as they were offered four power plays by the Saints, including a full two-minutes of five-on-three action, but the puck never found the back of the net despite Lindenwood outshooting Maryville 18-9 in the period, so it remained a 1-0 contest.
The game flipped back in favor of the Saints in the third as they outshot the Lions 24-14 and scored three times, the final goal coming on a power play after a Lindenwood high-sticking penalty.
Overall, Maryville outshot the Lions 54-33 and Allerding stopped 50 of the 54 shots she faced in a losing effort.
With the series split, Lindenwood wraps up its fall campaign with a mark of 1-5 in the WMCH and 3-8-1 overall. The Lions return to the ice for three games in four days at home. They'll host the University of Massachusetts January 12 at 9:40 p.m. and Michigan State January 13 at a time yet to be determined, then take on Arizona State at 10:30 a.m. January 15 with all three games at the Centene Community Ice Center.
