Women’s Lacrosse Wins First NCAA Division I Game

On Tuesday, The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team (1-1) faced off against the reigning MAC conference champions, the Central Michigan Chippewas. On a dreary and rainy day, the Lions pulled out their first NCAA Division I victory in a 17-15 thriller.

Overview
To start off the game, the Chippewas would score the first six goals. The first goal by the Lions would come at the 3:24 mark of the first quarter, coming from Logann Eldredge. The Lions would trail the Chippewas 7-1 at the end of the first. Lindenwood would control the second quarter, scoring nine of their own, coming from Eldredge, Emma Arnold, Sam Irwin, and Paige Sutton, to take the 10-8 lead going into the second half. Freshman Isabella Jahkhah would record her first point as a Lion in the second quarter.

The third quarter was a tight battle. The Chippewas would score the first three goals of the third. The Lions would bounce back, scoring two of their own coming from Brennan Paddy and Arnold to take back the lead. The Lions and Chippewas would trade off goals to end the third quarter, with the Lions retaining the 14-13 lead. In the fourth quarter, Central Michigan would score first, then the Lions would strike with one of their own five minutes later. The Chippewas would score at the 4:38 mark to tie the game up. At the 3:34 mark, Lindsey Smith would score the eventual game-winner. Eldredge would score once more to put the Lions up two with 45 seconds left.

Eldredge led the Lions in points and goals, having nine points, coming off six goals and three assists. Three Lions had four points on the day, and ten lions had at least one point. Sara Greico led the Lions in assists with four. Eleanor Kast started in net for Lions making seven saves.

The Lions will return to the field of play on Sunday, February 19th,  to take on the Louisville Cardinals at noon in Louisville, Ky.
