Women's ACHA ice hockey built a 2-0 lead midway through the opening period, but McKendree came back to get a 4-2 victory over the Lions in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action Saturday night at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Loki Antonio sounded the horn first for Lindenwood off a feed from
Ardyn Hawryshko at 6:31. Hawryshko then netted a shot herself on a play set up by Antonio and
Madison Teague at 8:40 for a 2-0 Lions lead.
Lindenwood held that advantage for the rest of the first and most of the second until the Bearcats broke the shutout with 52-seconds left in the period. It was all McKendree from there with three more even-strength goals in the third to pull away.
The Bearcats outshot the Lions 36-28 and
Maia Busi made 32 saves on the 36 pucks she faced in a losing effort for Lindenwood. Despite 26 minutes worth of penalties from the two teams combined, neither scored a power play goal.
With the loss, the Lions wrap up the regular season at 5-12-1 in the WMCH and 6-17-1 overall. The WMCH Conference Tournament will take place February 23-25 at the Maryville Ice Arena in Chesterfield, Missouri.
