The 2022-23 season for women's ACHA ice hockey came to an end at the Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) conference tournament February 23-24 at the Maryville Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri. The Lions arrived as the No. 7 seed and fell to No. 2 Midland Thursday night 4-0, then were shutout 6-0 by No. 6 seed Jamestown on Friday.
Special teams proved to be a major factor in the game against the Warriors. Lindenwood went scoreless on two power plays while yielding two goals in four man-advantage chances to Midland. The Warriors scored twice in each of the first two periods to pull away.
Midland outshot the Lions 37-24, but
Emily McDonald did her best in goal for Lindenwood, stopping 33 of the 37 shots she faced.
It was more of the same against the Jimmies. The Lions had multiple scoring opportunities, but just could not get the puck in the net. Jamestown jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after the first period, added a single tally in the second, and finished with two more in the third to put the contest out of reach. Lindenwood prevented the Jimmies from scoring on five man-advantage chances, but only had one power play opportunity, going scoreless.
Jamestown outshot the Lions 36-27 and McDonald stopped 30 of 36 shots for Lindenwood.
With the two losses, the Lions finished with a mark of 5-12-1 in the WMCH and 6-19-1 overall. Lindenwood will return to the ice for the 2023-24 season in October.
