ST. CHARLES, MO. - On Wednesday, the Midwest Independence Conference announced that
Nya Kraus and
Kaylee Cooper were awarded weekly honors based on their outstanding performances in the Lions' tri-meet victory over Centenary and Greenville on Sunday afternoon.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Kraus was named this week's MIC Newcomer of the Week after this weekend's meet, which was her first time competing in multiple events for the Lions so far this season..
The Canada native had an impressive outing, scoring a 9.825 on balance beam, 9.725 on bars and a 9.675 on vault. Kraus' beam score was the second best out of everyone in the entire meet and also unlocked a new personal best score for the freshman.
Kraus was a large part of the Lions' impressive 195.425 team score, executing in all three events in which she competed this weekend.
COACHES CHOICE
Cooper claimed Coaches Choice honors this week, which is a brand new award this season that gets voted on each week by all the coaches in the conference. Cooper is the first Lion to claim this particular award this season and in program history.
The sophomore was dominant in both events she competed in this weekend, winning the uneven bars with her 9.850 performance and reaching a new personal best on floor with her 9.775 score. Cooper brought an undeniable energy to both events, greatly helping the Lions to victory over Centenary and Greenville.
This is both Kraus and Cooper's first time winning an MIC weekly award so far in their careers.
These two and the rest of the Lions will be back at it on Friday evening when they'll go head to head with SEMO at 6:30 p.m. in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
