The Lindenwood men's hockey team (7-20-0) dropped the first game of its series with No. 18 University of Alaska Fairbanks (21-10-2) by a score of 4-1 on Friday night from Fairbanks, Alaska.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions got on the board first, just past the halfway point of the opening frame when
Mitch Allard carried the puck down the left side and found
Adam Conquest whose wrist shot beat the Nanooks netminder, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead at the 10:13 mark of the first frame.
Coltan Wilkie also picked up an assist on the go-ahead score. Shortly after, Fairbanks earned a man advantage opportunity and
Trent Burnham came up with three big saves to begin the powerplay as Lindenwood maintained the lead. The Alaska native was strong between the pipes during the first 20 minutes of play, stopping all 13 shots, as the Lions took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
The Nanooks scored two quick goals within the first five minutes of the middle frame to take a 2-1 lead. Despite the score, Burnham continued his strong play, making 20 saves in the period, which kept Lindenwood in the game. Alaska Fairbanks added a late goal, however, to extend its lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Lindenwood was unable to draw any closer on the night and the Nanook added a late goal to pick up the win in the series opener by a 4-1 score.
