Olympic Weightlifting Wins Coed and Women’s National Titles

Olympic weightlifting won both the coed and women's team titles at University Nationals March 2-5 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Lindenwood also finished second in men's team competition.

The Lions totaled 230 points in coed competition to finish 21 points ahead of the University of Florida in second place. East Tennessee State took third with 197 points. In women's competition, Lindenwood totaled 191 points to claim the title, 26 points ahead of Florida with East Tennessee in third. Florida claimed the men's team title with 181 points while the Lions took second with 154.

Individually, Lindenwood placed six men in the top eight of their weight class. Sam Leonard (73kg snatch; 102kg C & J) finished second in the men's 55kg division with a total of 175kg. In the 61kg class, Chase Zilcosky (75kg snatch; 101kg C & J) took fourth with a total of 176kg.

In the men's 73kg division, Eric Linck (110kg snatch; 131 C & J) finished fifth with a total of 241kg and Adam Withinton (95kg snatch; 128kg C & J) took eighth with a total of 223kg. James Tice (145kg snatch; 172kg C & J) finished second in the 109kg weight class with a total of 317kg, and Logan Kulinski (92kg snatch; 118kg C & J) took eighth in the 109+kg division with a total of 210kg.

In other action in the men's 89kg class, Calvin Lackey (102kg snatch; 135kg C & J) finished 11th with a total of 237kg and Quinn Raulerson (95kg snatch; 127kg C & J) took 14th with a 222kg total.

In women's competition, 10 Lindenwood lifters posted solid performances. Brianne Sepulveda (70kg snatch; 93kg C & J) took third in the women's 55kg class with a total of 163kg. She also took 10th in Women's Best Lifter competition. In the 64kg division, Laura Cochran (80kg snatch; 95kg C & J) finished fourth with a total of 175kg, Jordyn Dearth (61kg snatch; 77kg C & J) totaled 138kg to take 14th, and Samantha Brown (57kg snatch; 69kg C & J) took 17th with 126kg total.

Ruthie Duncan (75kg snatch; 97kg C & J) totaled 172kg in the women's 71kg class to finish fourth. Nicole Citera-Juarez (72kg snatch; 97kg C & J) was right behind in fifth with a total of 169kg. Chloe Varady (59kg snatch; 70kg C & J) totaled 129kg to take 14th.

In the 81kg division, Salma Mahmoud (66kg snatch; 83kg C & J) finished third with a total of 149kg. Abby Kicklighter (77kg snatch; 98kg C & J) won the women's 87kg class with a total of 175kg and Jenna McClain (83kg snatch; 105kg C & J) won the 87+kg division with a total of 188kg.

The coed and women's team titles add to the list of national championships for Olympic weightlifting. The Lions last hoisted trophies in 2019 when they won both the men's and women's team crowns.
