Krige Panel for Captain

Men's Rugby

Duncan Krige Named Men’s Rugby Captain for 2023-24 Season

Men's Rugby Head Coach Josh Macy has named Duncan Krige as captain for the 2023-2024 season. Krige becomes the fifth captain during Macy's tenure at Lindenwood, following Neal Moylett, Marnus Spangenberg, Wesley White, and Jack Huckstepp in the role.

Moylett, who departs via graduation after two years as a team leader and one as a captain, expressed his thoughts about the transition.

"I'm very grateful to have been trusted with the responsibility of being captain. I loved every second of it," Moylett said. "I'm excited to see Duncan and the other leaders pick up where we left off and move the program a step further."

Krige hails from Port Elizabeth, South Africa and made an immediate impact after joining the squad in the spring of 2021. He was a frequent starter at flanker and was voted First Team All-Conference by opposing coaches last season. Off the field, Krige is a high-achieving math major and is wrapping up an internship at BSN Sports in Texas this summer.

Krige addressed his team after receiving the appointment as captain.

"I am extremely grateful for the selection as captain to our incredible program," he stated. "I am filled with the immense opportunity that lies ahead along with the challenges that are sure to test our strength and unity.

"Leading a team of such remarkable caliber is an honor that gives me immense pride. We have an extraordinary group of players, each bringing their unique talents and determination to the field. Together, we will be a force to be reckoned with.

"As we get ready for the upcoming season, our aspirations are high, and I have nothing but confidence in the players and coaches around us. We are setting aims for nothing but success, ready to conquer every obstacle in our path. With hard work, dedication, and the camaraderie of Lindenwood Lions, we will achieve a great season together that all Lions, past, present, and future can be proud of.

"I am humbled to stand at the front of this team, and promise to lead with integrity, passion, and give nothing short of my all. I have a strong sense that this team will not only maintain the high standards of Lindenwood rugby, but also create our own legacy to remember."

Men's rugby kicks off its quest for a D1A title on October 14 by traveling across the river to face rival McKendree. It will be the first matchup between the Lions and the Bearcats in the newly formed Midwest Rugby Conference. Adrian and Davenport are also inaugural members of the MRC.
