Women’s Ice Hockey Wins 4-1 Over Bemidji State

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Sunday afternoon, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team faced off against Bemidji State in the second game of the two-game series. The Lions would come out on top, winning 4-1, sweeping the Beavers 2-0 in the series.

GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, the game would remain scoreless for fourteen and a half minutes. At the 5:55 minute mark in the period, Sarah Davies would put one in the back of the net, assisted by Morgan Neitzke and Sena Takenaka, for the Lions to go up 1-0. For the remainder of the period, both teams were held scoreless. The Lions would lead going into the second period.

In the second period, much like the first, scoring was not prevalent. Ten minutes into the period, the Beavers would score to tie the game up at 1-1. Strong defense by both teams for the remainder of the period would keep the game tied going into the final frame.

Five minutes into third period, Rachel Goff redirected a shot into the back of the net to regain the one goal lead. Three and a half minutes later, Thea Jørgensen would score off a slapshot from the wing for the Lions to extend the lead 3-1. Neitzke and Davies would assist Jørgensen's goal. In a last-ditch effort, the Beavers would pull their goaltender leaving the net open. In the final minute and half of the period, Neitzke would intercept a pass in the Lion's defensive zone and take it the distance to put the Lions up 4-1.

Emily Finach started in net for the Lions, making 22 saves on one goal against. Finach would record her first career win. After a three-point effort, Neitzke would reach 52 career points.

QUOTABLE
"We could not be happier to get the win today and start the season 2-0. Our team stuck together and never let up even when things were not going our way. This group is certainly special, and we look forward to more success as the season progresses", said head coach Taylor Wasylk.
