Men's Volleyball Begins 2024 Season With Pair of Matches at #6 Grand Canyon

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team is set to begin its 2024 season this weekend with a pair of matches against No. 6 Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz. Match one is set for Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT, while the second match will be on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT.

FIRST SERVE
  • GCU leads the all-time series 12-7 and has won the last nine.
  • This will mark the second consecutive year the Lions have opened against the Lopes.
  • Lindenwood is looking for its first win in a season opener since Jan. 22, 2021, in a 3-2 win over Georgetown College
  • Lindenwood's last win in Phoenix, Ariz. came on Mar. 28, 2015, in what ended in a five-set victory.
  • Grand Canyon enters the weekend series with a 3-0 record.
  • The Lopes finished 22-8 in 2023, which culminated in a NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • The Lions ended last season with a 10-13 record. The 10 wins are the most in a single season since having 11 in 2020.
  • This will be the only Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team on Lindenwood's schedule.
  • Head coach Joe Kosciw enters his seventh season at the helm of the program and his 11th at Lindenwood.
2024 OUTLOOK
The Lindenwood men's volleyball team currently has nine matchups against ranked teams on its 2024 schedule. The squad was picked to finished sixth in the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Preseason Poll earning 41 points. Lindenwood returns key pieces to their lineup for 2024, including A.J. Lewis, RaShawn Bonner, and Ian Schuller, who all garnered all-conference honors a year ago. Lewis was named to the preseason all-MIVA team for the upcoming year. Last season, Lewis led the team with 39 service aces and was second on the team with 249 digs.

UP NEXT
The Lions will remain on the road for back-to-back matches with NJIT (Jan. 19) and LIU (Jan. 20). Both matches are set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CT.
