OXFORD, OHIO. – On Friday night, men's ice hockey (1-3-0) took on Miami of Ohio (2-2-2, 0-0-0 NCHC) in game one of the series versus the RedHawks. The Lions would come out on top, winning 4-2 over the RedHawks, with the Lions improving to 2-3-0 on the campaign.
GAME OVERVIEW
For majority of the first period, things were quiet. The RedHawks would nod the first goal of the game with 36 seconds left in the period. After a period of play, the Lions would trail 1-0. In the period, the Lions had six shots on net.
Owen Bartoszkiewicz made seven stops in the period.
In the second period, the Lions would find their first goal of the game. 6:02 into the second,
Alexander Lundman would score his second goal of the year, tipping in a rebound to tie the game up at 1-1. Lundman's goal would be assisted by
Drew Kuzma and
Jake Southgate. For the rest of the period, both teams would be held off the scoresheet. After two periods of play, the game would be tied 1-1. In the frame, Lindenwood had ten shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz made 12 saves in the period.
In the third period, the Lions would find the scoring column first. The Lions second goal of the night would come at 4:29 into the period, coming from a
David Gagnon one-timer, roofing it into the top-right corner for his third goal of the season. Gagnon's goal would be assisted by
Noah Houle and
Kristof Papp, giving the Lions their first lead of the night. Not more than two minutes later at 6:24 into the frame, Gagnon would score his second goal of the night, after intercepting a RedHawks pass in the neutral zone and back-handing a shot past the goaltender, giving the Lions a two-goal lead. Gagnon's second goal of the night would come while short-handed. 11:06 into the period, the RedHawks would score their second goal of the night while on the powerplay, cutting the Lions lead to one. Not more than a minute later, Papp would redirect a pass into the back of the net, giving the Lions a 4-2 lead with 7:38 left to go. Papp's goal would be assisted by Southgate and Gagnon. The Lions would hold the RedHawks scoreless for the remainder of the period, pulling out a 4-2 victory. In the final period, Lindenwood would have six shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz in the frame stopped 12 pucks, for a total of 31 saves on the night.

"I really liked our effort in the third period. We stuck to our game plan. There were a couple big time plays we executed. I thought we had great faceoff play and got a big time goal out of it from Papp to get a two-goal lead late," said head coach
