MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MINN. – On Friday afternoon, women's ice hockey (1-9-1, 1-1-0 AHA) took on St. Thomas (5-5-1, 2-5-1 WCHA) for the second time this week. In a strong offensive performance, Lindenwood would win 6-1, improving to 2-9-1 on the 2024-25 campaign.
GAME OVERVIEW
In period one, Lindenwood would find the back of the net early into the frame. At 3:35 into the period,
Olivia Grabianowski would one-time a shot into the back of the net, to put the Lions up 1-0. Grabianowski's first goal of the year would be assisted by
Morgan Neitzke, who would register her 100
th career point as a Lion on the assist. Neitzke would be the first player in program history to hit this milestone. Exactly six minutes later, St. Thomas would tie the game up at 1-1, scoring while even-strength. The Lions would go into intermission, tied 1-1 with the Tommies. The Lions in the period had five shots on net.
Catherine Hodgins would make eleven stops in the first period.
In period two,
Gigi Pora would get the Lions on the scoresheet early, to put the Lions up 2-1 early, scoring at 5:42. Pora's goal would be assisted by
Sidney Jackel. A little less than six minutes later,
Maegan Cronan would score her first career goal as a Lion, scoring off a shot through the goaltender's five-hole, extending Lindenwood's lead to two.
Josey Dunne would score the final goal of the period at 19:11.1, off a slap-shot from the point, to put the Lions up 4-1. Dunne's first career goal as Lion would be assisted by
Molly Henderson and Neitkze. At the end of the second period, Lindenwood would lead 4-1. In the frame, Lindenwood had seven shots on net. Hodgins in the period would make nine stops.
In the final period of play, the Lions would find the back of the net twice. The Lions first goal of the period came from Neitzke scoring on an empty-net at 17:51, from the Lions own defensive zone. Neitzke's goal would be assisted by
Sydney Rarick.
Silje Gundersen would score the Lions final goal on the afternoon, putting a shot past the goaltender's low blocker side. In the final period, Lindenwood had seven shots on net for a total of 19 during the game. Hodgins would make 13 saves in the period, for a total of 33 on the afternoon. After the final whistle, Hodgins would record her first career win, in her first career start.
