Lindenwood women's basketball starts Ohio Valley Conference play this week as they take on Tennessee Tech on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. CT inside Hyland Arena. The Lions are in the middle of a four-game home stretch and are looking to end a four-game losing steak. The Lions will not play a road game until the second weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play when they go to Eastern Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 2nd.
Lindenwood is coming off their second straight home loss of the season against Nebraska-Omaha last Saturday by a final score of 66-73.
Mya Skoff and
Justis Odom both scored a season-high 16 points in the loss. Lindenwood was held to 35.3% from the field in the fourth quarter while the Mavericks shot 50.0% and went a perfect 6-6 from the foul.
Coming into conference play, Lindenwood is averaging 64.8 points per game and have scored over 65 points five times this season. When Lindenwood scores over 65 points this season, the Lions are 3-2 including wins over Evansville and Kansas City. LU has held opponents under 65 points five times this season.
Tennessee Tech started off OVC play on Tuesday with a convincing 72-52 over Western Illinois on Macomb. The Golden Eagles are led by Kim Rosamond who is in her ninth season at the helm. Rosamond led TTU to a 6-3 non-conference record including wins over Chattanooga and Jackson State. During the preseason, Tennessee Tech was picked to finish in fourth after a 16-15 campaign during the 2023-24 season.
Lindenwood continues Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 21st against Western Illinois. The Lions came into the season picked seventh out of 11 teams in the OVC. Lindenwood's four wins during the non-conference portion of the season was their most wins before conference play since transitioning to Division I.
Player to Watch
Mya Skoff has been the sixth-man for the Lions this season averaging 23.4 minutes a night in nine contests. She is currently averaging 6.4 points per game while shooting 42.9% from the field and 31.6% from three-point range.Â
Skoff is coming off her best performance of the season with 16 points against Omaha last Saturday. She shot 6-9 from the field while cashing in on three of four threes. She has scored at least seven points off the bench six times this season.
OVC Preseason Rankings
The Ohio Valley Conference released their 2024-25 women's basketball preseason predicted order of finish earlier this off-season. Lindenwood was selected to finish seventh after going 7-21 a season ago and 5-13 in conference.Â
Lindenwood received 81 points in the preseason poll which put them in seventh heading into the season. This marks the highest ranking for a Lindenwood women's basketball team in their three seasons in the league.
The defending OVC Champions Southern Indiana Screaming Eagle were selected to win the OVC after receiving 20 of the 22 first-place votes for a total of 200 points. UT Martin finished in second (180 points, 2 first-place votes) followed by Eastern Illinois (145) and Tennessee Tech (140). Little Rock rounds out the top five followed by Western Illinois, Lindenwood, SIUE, Morehead State, Tennessee State and SEMO.
The Ohio Valley Conference also selected two 'Players To Watch" from each OVC school to start the upcoming season. Brueggemann and newcomer Coffey were tabbed as Lindenwood's players to watch for the 2024-25 season.
Scouting Tennessee Tech
Tennessee Tech secured their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season earlier this week after defeating Western Illinois in Macomb by a final score of 72-52. Tech is currently averaging the third most points in the OVC with an average of 69.9 points per game. She allowing the second fewest of any OVC team at 60.8.
Reghan Grimes is the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles averaging 12.8 points per game which ranks ninth in the OVC. She also started all 10 games for TTU while shooting 45.3% from the field and 32.1% from three. TTU has four double-digit scorers this season including Taris Thornton who is a transfer from fellow-OVC member Eastern Illinois.
Head Coach:Â Amy Eagan
Eagan was named head coach of the Lindenwood women's basketball program on March 28, 2023.
In year one under Eagan, the Lions posted a 7-21 record. Lindenwood found itself in many close games, dropping eight contests by seven points or less. The black and gold led the OVC in turnover margin at +3.68.Â
Ellie Brueggemann had an outstanding freshman campaign, averaging 13.8 points per game, which led to second team and all newcomer selections.Â
Makayla Wallace set a new single season program record for steals with 72. She averaged 2.6 steals per game last season, tied for tops in the conference. It also ranked 24th nationally.Â

Eagan arrives in St. Charles, Mo. after spending three seasons as the head coach of Drury University women's basketball. Eagan completed her 14th season as a collegiate head coach, as she had stops at Truman State, Ashford, and St. Ambrose.

Eagan brings a career mark of 274-151 (.645) to Lindenwood, including four-straight seasons of 23 or more wins. Eagan has led three schools to the NCAA Division II tournament for a total of five appearances, as well as one NAIA tournament appearance. Eagan had claimed five conference titles in her 14 years, including three-straight.
