MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. -- On Friday afternoon, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team faced off against the Robert Morris Colonials. The Lions would fall 7-5 to Colonials, after making a late comeback.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first period, the Colonials were able to strike first, scoring 3:44 into the period. Minutes later, the Lions were able to tie the game up at 1-1 coming from a
Sidney Jackel shot assisted by
Morgan Neitzke, at the 7:22 mark in the frame. The Colonials would bounce back, scoring twice before the end of the period. The Colonials would lead 3-1 going into the intermission.
In the second period, the Colonials would find the back of the net 19 seconds into the frame, extending their lead to three. Less than a minute later,
Chloe Corbin would close the Lions deficit to two.
Kaitlin Finnegan and
Emma Hoen would be attributed assists on Corbin's goal. Eight minutes later, the Colonials would regain their three-goal lead going into the final period. After two periods, the Lions would trail 5-2.
Almost four minutes into the third period, the Colonials would score their sixth goal of the game, to go up 6-2. The Lions would strike back with one of their own, coming at the 8:21 mark in the frame, closing the Lions deficit to three. Corbin would be attributed the goal assisted by Jackel and Neitzke. Less than two minutes later, the Colonials regained the four-goal lead, scoring off the power-play. In a last-ditch effort, the Lions would empty their net with 4:47 to go. While playing 6 on 5, the Lions would score two goals coming from
Sarah Davies and
Olivia Grabianowski, closing the deficit to two. Â
After this matchup, the Lions moved to 11-18-2 overall, and 6-11-2. Neitzke led the Lions in points on the night with four, coming off four assists.
