The Lions took on Marquette in their season opener, falling to the Golden Eagles 16-5. In this affair,
Connor Engel and
Noah Wehrman led the Lions in points with two. Engel scored two points coming from one goal and one assist, and Wehrman netted two goals. On the defensive end,
Brian Kallberg contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
AJ Preachuk got the nod in net for the Lions, making 14 saves.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
As the Lions are through one game, Lindenwood is averaging five goals per game and 16 goals against. The Lions are 11-25 (44.0 %) at the face-off and are 21-23 on clearing (91.3%). Engel and Wehrman lead the Lions in points with two, Kallberg leads the Lions in groundballs with three and caused turnovers with two. Preachuk leads the Lions in saves with 14.
This will be the second time in program history the Lions will face off against the Sharks of LIU. In their previous matchup (Feb. 18, 2023) the Lions won 9-8 over the Sharks, earning their first NCAA I victory in program history.
LIU currently sits 1-1 on the year, picking up a 10-8 win over Merrimack in their most recent game. The Sharks are averaging ten goals a game and 11 goals against. At the face-off, the Sharks are 25-50 (50.0%) and are 33-42 (78.6%) on clears. Sean Boll leads the Sharks in points with eight and assists with five. Tom von Bargen leads the Sharks in goals with five. On the defensive side of the ball, Nicholas Davide and Nick Kasic lead the Sharks in caused turnovers with five. Jasper Simon and Sean Richard both spent a game in net for the Sharks, making a combined 19 saves on 22 goals against.
