Lindenwood will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles on Friday, February 9
th at 2:00 PM CST for their season opener. The matchup will be played at Valley Fields.
Last Time Out
In the previous season, Lindenwood went 2-10 and 1-8 in the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) in their first season in NCAA Division I. In their last game of the 2023 campaign, the Lions fell to the Mercer Bears by a score of 12-8.
Matchup Preview
In the ASUN preseason coaches' poll, Lindenwood was picked as the tenth favorite team to win the conference. The Lions return two of their top five leading point contributors from the prior season.
Flint Thielen in his freshman campaign contributed 18 points and was named to the ASUN All-Freshman team in 2023. Graduate Student,
Adrian Thompson contributed 15 points in 11 games. On the defensive side, the Lions return
Brian Kallberg and
Jack Huntington. Kallberg, was named to the 2024 Preseason All-ASUN Team, led the Lions in caused turnovers with 22, and was second on the team in ground balls with 42 in 2023. Huntington in his sophomore campaign was second on the team in caused turnovers with 20 and fourth on the team in ground balls with 30.
This will be the second time the two programs meet. In the first matchup in program history (February 4, 2023), the Lions fell 17-2 to the Golden Eagles.
Marquette in 2023 went 6-8 and 1-4 in the Big East. Prior to the start of the 2024 season, the Golden Eagles were picked as the third favorite team to win the Big East. Currently, the Golden Eagles are 1-0 on the year, picking up a 12-6 win against fellow ASUN opponent, Air Force. Players to watch on the offensive side of the ball for the Golden Eagles include Devon Cowan, Luke Blanc, and Bobby O'Grady. Cowan leads Marquette in points with four after one game. Blanc and O'Grady are tied for the second most points on the team with three. Mason Woodward and Caleb Creasor are tied for the most caused turnovers for the Golden Eagles, with two. Creasor started in net for the Golden Eagles in their last matchup, making 12 stops on six goals against for a 66.7% save percentage.
