SOUTH BEND, IND. – On Saturday night, men's ice hockey took on Notre Dame in game two of the series against the Fighting Irish. The Fighting Irish would get the better of the Lions, with the Lions falling to the Fighting Irish 4-2. After the contest, Lindenwood would fall to 6-18-2 on the season, and Notre Dame would improve to 9-16-1.
GAME OVERVIEW
With 15:57 left in the first period, Notre Dame would tally the first goal of the game, scoring off a wrist shot past Lindenwood's netminder's glove side. Notre Dame's early tally would be the only goal scored in the period, resulting in the Lions trailing 1-0, after 20 minutes of play.
Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 14 shots in between the pipes for the Lions. On the offensive side, Lindenwood struggled, finding only four shots on net in the period.
In the second period, Notre Dame found their second score on the night, just 1:43 into the frame. Notre Dame's second tally of the night came while on the power play, scoring off a one-timer. The Lions would not back down, scoring one of their own a little less than ten minutes later, with 8:45 left in the period.
Jake Southgate would be credited the goal for the Lions, scoring off a wrist shot from a
Patrick Schmiedlin feed.
Drew Kuzma would also be credited with an assist on Southgate's goal. This would be Southgate's third goal of the season. For the remainder of the period, the score would stay at 2-1, tilted in the Fighting Irish's favor. Offensively, Lindenwood had five shots on net in the period. Bartoszkiewicz stopped eight shots in the frame.
1:52 into the third period, Notre Dame would regain the two-goal lead, scoring from a low-angle, past Bartoszkiewicz's glove side. With 6:42 left in the period,
John Evans scored off a one-timer in the low slot from a
Jacob Vockler pass from behind the net, to cut the Fighting Irish lead back to one. Evan's goal would be his third on the 2024-25 campaign and would be Vockler's first career point as a Lion. To push a comeback, the Lions pulled Bartoszkiewicz to go 6-on-5. While the net was empty the Fighting Irish would score the final goal of the game with 47 seconds left, to extend their lead back to two. In the period, the Lions found their offensive footing, putting 15 shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz in the frame stopped 14 shots.
On the night, Lindenwood found 24 shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz had another solid performance in net for the Lions, stopping 36 of 39 shots (.923).
