Men’s Ice Hockey Falls 3-2 to St. Thomas in Overtime

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Friday night, men's ice hockey (4-13-1) took on St. Thomas (4-10-4) in the Lions first contest in the new year. The Lions would come from behind to force overtime but would lose in overtime 3-2. After the contest, Lindenwood drops to 4-14-1 on the season and St. Thomas would improve to 5-10-4. 

GAME OVERVIEW
In a closely contested matchup, both teams were held scoreless for the first 19 minutes of play. With 56 seconds left in the first frame, St. Thomas would score the first goal of the game on a tap-in opportunity. The period would end with the Tommies leading 1-0 over the Lions. Lindenwood would have nine shots on net in the period. Owen Bartoszkiewicz would make seven saves in the frame.

In the second period, St. Thomas would score the first goal of the period at 8:30 into the frame. Almost ten minutes later at 18:16, Jack Anderson would poke the puck into the back of the net off a rebound to cut the Tommies lead in half. This would be Anderson's first goal of the 2024-25 campaign and the Lions first power-play goal in seven games. Anderson's goal would be assisted by Ty Hipkin and Noah Houle. The period would end with the Tommies leading 2-1. In the frame, Lindenwood had 11 shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz made 11 stops in the frame.

In the third period, Brody Mortensen would tie the game up at 2-2 at 10:17 mark in the period. Mortensen's third goal of the season would be assisted by David Gagnon who would register his 60th career point. Both teams would be held of the scoresheet for the remainder of the period, forcing overtime. In the third, Lindenwood would have 11 shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz would make seven stops in the frame.

St. Thomas would score 2:19 into the overtime period. Bartoszkiewicz would make two stops in the period and Lindenwood would have four shots on net.
