ST. CHARLES, MO.- Lindenwood Women's Rugby started off the regular season with a 34-22 win over Army on Saturday afternoon behind a big offensive performance from
Madison Jersey. Two minutes into the match, Jersey would find a gap in the Army defense and would score the first try of the season for the Lions on a 40 yard run.
Gianna Diaz would add two more points on her first conversion of the season, putting the Lions up 7-0 early on into the match.
Lindenwood would score two more tries later on in the first half to jump out to a commanding 17-0 lead.
Amy Brice would score a try on a 30 yard run at the 10th minute, and Jersey would score her second try of the afternoon on a great pass from Brice at the 14th minute. Army would respond five minutes later, but would fail on the conversion to make it 17-5.
Madison Jersey would score her third try of the match three minutes later at the 22nd minute mark to put the Lions in front 22-5, but the Black Knights would score two tries in a row with one conversion to make it 22-17 at the half.
In the second half, Lindenwood's defense would only allow one try while
Jasmine Fehoko and
Ava Reuter would both have a try to give the Lions a 34-22 victory.
Gianna Diaz finished the match with two conversions and
Madison Jersey led the team in tries with three.

The Lions will hit the road next weekend as they will travel to Boston, Massachusetts to take on Harvard. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, September 6.
