MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey (11-11-0) team completed the weekend sweep of Stonehill (4-16-2) with 5-1 win in Maryland Heights on Saturday night. The Lions seized control of the game with two early goals, eventually taking a 5-0 lead before the Skyhawks found a score.

Lindenwood opened the scoring with a pair of goals in quick succession in the first period's sixth minute.
Jake Southgate scored off the rebound on a shot by
Michael Bevilacqua at the 5:09 mark to make the tally 1-0 before
Brady McIsaac got on the end of a cross-ice pass by
Jacob Fletcher to nestle in another score for the Lions just 26 seconds later.
LU would score two more goals in the second period, with Anslemo Rego curling around the net before scoring on a wrist shot from the faceoff circle at the 9:32 mark, and
Jake Southgate adding his second goal of the evening with a power play conversion in the waning seconds of the frame, scoring from the slot on another rebound – this time off the stick of
Louis-Philippe Fontaine.
Lindenwood's fifth and final goal came less than two minutes into the third period, as
Olivier Houde scored on a one-timer from the face off circle on another great assist by
Jacob Fletcher.
Nine Lions registered at least one point in the contest, led by
Jake Southgate with two goals,
Jacob Fletcher and
Louis-Philippe Fontaine with two assists, and
Brady McIsaac with one goal and one assist.
Michael Bevilacqua extended his team-long point streak to seven games after being credited with an assist on Southgate's first period goal.
Nolan Seed and
Giovanni Morneau also posted assists in the game.
Klayton Knapp put together another stellar performance in net, stopping a total of 33 shots, including a couple of impressive one-on-one saves, while giving up just one goal in the final period.
The win moves Lindenwood's all-time record against Stonehill to 9-3-0 with a 7-0-1 record on home ice. The Lions are now 3-1-0 against independent opponents this season.

The Lions make the trek to Fairbanks next weekend for a pair of contests against Alaska on Friday, January 23rd and Saturday, January 24th. Both games are scheduled to get underway at 10:07 p.m. CT.
