ON DECK
The Lindenwood baseball team opens their 2026 home schedule with a series against St. Thomas at Lou Brock Sports Complex this weekend. The four-game set will feature the first ever meeting between the two programs.

LEADING OFF
  • 2026 is the first season of NCAA postseason eligibility for the Lindenwood baseball program since beginning the transition to Division-I in 2022-23. It was announced in June that the NCAA Division-I Board of Directors had voted to grant the Lions full membership after completing reclassification a year early through an extradited process.
  • Head Coach PJ Finigan enters his third season leading the Lindenwood baseball program, and his fourth season at LU overall. Finigan led the Lions to their highest win total of the Division-I era in 2025, posting a 30-30 record with a 14-12 mark in conference play. Lindenwood finished sixth in the OVC before advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
  • Lindenwood returns three All-OVC performers off last season's team, including Pitcher of the Year Josh Newell, Freshman of the Year Charlie Isom-McCall (INF), and All-2nd Team selection Kam Edwards (OF).
  • The Lions 2026 roster features 18 total newcomers, including eight transfers and 10 freshmen.
  • Lindenwood was picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference's preseason poll, voted on by OVC coaches and communicators.
  • LU's 2026 schedule features 33 home games, including an eight-game homestand in late February and a 10-game homestand in mid-March. It is the Lions' largest home schedule since transition to Division-I. Lindenwood went 16-9 at the Lou last season.
LAST TIME OUT
Lindenwood went 2-2 in their opening weekend series at Arkansas Pine Bluff last weekend, splitting a pair of doubleheaders. The LU pitching staff combined for an ERA of 2.62, allowing two or fewer runs in three of the four games.

Josh Newell and Aaron Jungers combined to allow just one run (zero earned) in the season opener, giving up just four hits with seven total strikeouts. Seth Benes was lights out in the Lions' 3-0 win on Saturday, tossing seven complete shutout innings, surrendering six hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Despite the 2-1 loss in the series finale, Lucas Niemeyer was fantastic, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts through seven scoreless innings.

Lindenwood struggled to find consistent production at the plate, batting .223 and slugging .324. Will Geary led the Lions offensively, batting .500 (8-16) with a double and a triple while adding one RBI and three stolen bases.

SCOUTING THE TOMMIES
  • St. Thomas went 1-3 at Abeline Christian last weekend in what were the first of 25 consecutive road games to begin the season for the Tommies, who do not host a home contest until March 27th.
  • UST is batting .219 as a team with a .320 on base percentage. Tanner Rechio headlined the Tommies lineup last week, batting .385 (5-13) with three doubles and five RBIs.
  • UST pitchers have a combined 9.56 ERA, with William Pierro being responsible for the Tommies' lone win after giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts through 4.0 innings of relief work.
